The Marathon podium was topped by three Ethiopians, albeit with two now competing for Bahrain. Shitaye Eshete won in a solid PB of 2:24:52 (previous 2:25:35 in Dubai, 2016) with her fellow Bahranian Mimi Belete in 3rd with a marathon debut of 2:26:04 and Birke Dibele who remains competing for Ethiopia came in second.
Runners Tribe reports:
For a long time in the women’s race the leading group comprised seven runners and they went through halfway in 1:13:23. At 30 kilometres the leading group had been reduced to five: along with Shitaye Eshete, Birke Debele and Mimi Belete were Bahrain’s Tejitu Daba and Sylvia Kibet of Kenya. Daba and Kibet were the first to drop off the pace and the remaining trio reached 35k in 2:00:58. “At this point I wasn’t sure what to do because we were still all together. That began to change and I knew it would be my day,” said Shitaye Eshete, who went clear with around four kilometres remaining.
The 27-year-old Shitaye Eshete ran a personal best of 2:24:51. Her husband, Shumi Dechasa, who also runs for Bahrain, might also have been a contender for honours but the 2014 Haspa Marathon Hamburg champion developed an injury.
Leigh James of London's Heathside was the first GB female in 3:06:18.
A huge shout out to Dianne Pierre (@The_runner_Speaks) of my own crew, BBC Running Club (miss you!) who was second female Brit in a PB of 3:24:29. Dianne is a running enthusiast and very active in getting others involved. She also spent a year working for the IOC so it's safe to says she's a sports fan and I'm very excited to see her get this PB even in warm conditions - I think she's pretty happy...
Another huge congrats goes to Julia of Carbs and Kilometers for completing her challenge 4 Marathons in 4 weeks in under 4 hrs. Hamburg 3:49:15, London. 3:55:33,Brighton (pacing )3:59:36, Manchester 3:53:13.
The Half Marathon was won by Sabrina Mockenhaupt of Germany in 1:15:13
The first ever ABP Newport Marathon
Won by Natasha Cockram (@TashaCockram).
Having run in the USA from 2011-2015, Natasha now runs for the brilliantly named Mickey Morris Racing Team. She won in 2:44:58, reports Fast Running, beating her PB by more than four minutes and the second place (Andrea Rowlands, 2:58:56) by a huge 14 minutes. Natasha has recently run a 10k PB (35:17) in the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay 10K and 2 seconds off her Half Marathon PB in Llanelli Half Marathon in Feb (77:55). So, despite apparently being plagued by injury last year, the Welsh Trail Half-Marathon champion seems to be doing rather well in 2018!
Great Stirling Run Inc. Scottish Marathon Championship) (full and half marathon)
Alison McGill 03:02:35
Michelle Mackay 03:05:01
Rhona Anderson 03:09:56
It was only Alison's second Marathon after London in 2016 (3:13:24). She ran a Half Marathon PB in March (82:23) at the Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon but has mainly focussed on shorter races and XC in the last year and a half so this is an excellent run from the Fife AC jog-leader.
Sarah Brown 01:26:58 Edinburgh AC
Louise Tyler 01:28:21
Kirsty O’Brien 01:28:32
Wentworth Track Marathon in Hexham
Results not up but I'd love to hear about anyone who has done it.
Marathon (105 laps plus 195 metres), half marathon (52 laps plus 300 m) and relay (up to 4 runners to complete the marathon distance). Does anyone have any info about this?
Metro Marathon Dusseldorf
Won by Belarusian, Volha Mazuronak in 2:25:25. She ran her PB of 2:23:54 in London in 2016 where she raised eyebrows, especially of Mara Yamauchi (though the blog post has been removed), when she ran "1:13.19 for the first half, 1:10.35 for the second half (2:21 pace). with her last 2195m covered in an astonishing 7'08" compared with 7'17" for the winner of the race - Sumgong". The London Marathon organisers defended Mazuronak, noting she had given a blood test for doping before the race.(wikipedia) She finished in fifth place at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Top GB runner was Jennifer Hrmo Barclay in 3:47:33.
Big Sur marathon, California
Julia Rhie in 3:01:12 beating last year's 3:01:47 but no where near the course record of 2:41:45. She ran 2:58:17 in New York in Nov 17.
I can't tell from the results what county runners come from without knowing the city.
Oberelbe marathon, Germany
Won by 28 year old doctor and South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace record holder, Daniela Oemus, in 2:55:29. No GB runners.
Rimini marathon, Italy
Nikolina Sustic (Wings for Life World Run in Zadar 2016) of Croatia in 2:51:04. No GB runners.
